Recently, I had seen a headline where President Obama said to dream big goals. I forget the the sub heading of the article but, I believe it was something like “even if they seem impossible.” The point being, we need people to dream big and do bigger.
I’m not sure why but, this reminded me of another article I had read where there was a survey done (seems there is a survey for anything anymore) where “most” people in this country feel as if the American dream is unattainable anymore. I refuse to believe this myself.
Granted, this isn’t the 60′s anymore and people do tend to be less caring of others. Our politics is more about personal destruction than about being constructive – this goes for both parties. While I’m hopeful President Obama can be successful and bring real honest to goodness change, I’m doubtful it’ll happen. Not in the way change needs to happen but, that’s a topic for another day.
Dreaming big is only the first step. Looking inside yourself and determine what needs to happen to make the dream reality is the step before the first step.
Today is just a very exciting day. I’m looking forward to putting some goals in place myself and to dream big. My dream? To get people to understand that we’re in this together. Just because we may disagree with a political philosophy or view point doesn’t mean we can’t be friends, or civil or respectful. It just means we have things to discuss and debate ![]()

Hey Tabitha,
I couldn't agree with you any less on Obama. If you think he's worse than Bush, I would suggest you go back thru the earlier part of this decade. Obama isn't perfect but, nobody is. Having said that, he is far and away an upgrade over the last President. Inside of a year the economy is at least growing again. Sure, we have a mountain of debt but again, it sure beat the alternative. If something wasn't done, we'd still be looking into the abys.
It amazes me how easily people forget how bad things really were under Bush.

Hey Scott!
I totally agree that the American Dream isn’t dead (um, that should be obvious from my job :p) and that discussion is critical even if folks are different, however I couldn’t disagree more about Obama. Maybe it’s the inside track or my POV since I am married to who I am married to and all that goes with our life, but that man is POISON. Even though I disagree with him so much, I still find myself having moments where he says SOMETHING and I pray so hard that maybe just maybe he has a clue about something…anything… Then he opens his mouth a week later and I’m done all over again. Not that I thought McCain would have been any better. I was resigned to be frustrated for four years either way…but anywho…
As for people being less caring of others, I agree there. I look around sometimes and wonder when everyone else got so jaded or why God decided to give me rose colored glasses. I have come to understand that there is a light in me and that I have to shine it as bright as I can! So, I try to do that every day.
Finally, I agree that dreaming big is a first step, but there must be more. Nothing can happen without a decision. We have to decide what we do. Even if we dream big and then not act on that dream, that’s a decision. It’s a decision not to act. If we see opportunity and we waffle about it, it’s not INDECISION, we have just decided to not make that decision and thus, we have again decided not to act. I think for a lot of folks making that decision to GO FOR IT is the hardest part, and that makes me sad sometimes. We are all capable of so much if only we would decide to let ourselves try!
Great post, my friend!
